“The Runaways” Teaser Trailer

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

For many, Joan Jett set the standard for being a true rock and roll chick.  And, for those who really got it, so did Cherie Currie.  The story of The Runaways was begging to be told on the big screen and we can’t wait to see it unfold on March 19th.  With the intriguing casting of Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett and sweet little (or at least that’s how most of us think of her) Dakota Fanning as Cherie, the stage is set for something real cool to go down.

Must See: “Crazy Heart”

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Crazy Heart has been flying under the radar, but with the kudos Jeff Bridges has been receiving for his performance and his very possible win as best actor at The Golden Globes this Sunday, it’s just about time for this film to bust out.  So, now’s the time to get to know this film.

Bridges stars as a washed up country-and-western singer named Bad Blake.  The cast also includes Robert Duvall and Maggie Gyllenhaal.  Here’s what the Los Angeles Times had to say “ The grim parts of the film present the bourbon-battered Blake slowly (or, at times, quickly) losing his grip on life. But there’s also a comically bleary ballet to the performance by Bridges, who plays Blake as a gifted songwriter who never loses his supple intellect or candor even as his body gives out to his liquored life.”

The film is starting to open in wider release now and you can find out where it’s playing near you by visiting the official website here. Become a fan on Facebook here and enjoy the trailer below.

Extra Hip Alert: “The Damned United” Interview With Michael Sheen

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

the-damned-united-20090806101723406_640w

The Damned United opens on Friday the 9th and stars the super fab Michael Sheen.  He’s a brilliant British actor who’s made a big impact over here with spot-on portrayals of Tony Blair in “The Queen” and David Frost in “Frost/Nixon”.   In this film he plays Brian Clough, arguably the most colorful British football coach ever.

We have long admired Michael as an actor, but now, we’re just smitten with his charming Welsh-ness.  (We shouldn’t have been surprised given that that is the land of Tom Jones).  Enjoy our interview below.

Sneak Peek At Some Movies We’ve Got Our Eyes On

Monday, September 21st, 2009

It’s the best movie time of the year right now…the Fall/Winter/For Your Consideration Season.  Here are a few of the upcoming films we have our eye on.

Capitalism: A Love Story.  Love him or hate him, Michael Moore always makes an interesting movie. And this time, he’s got his eye on the global economic meltdown.  Capitalism opens on the 23rd in limited release in New York and Los Angeles and everywhere October 2nd. See how the folks in Moore’s hometown of Detroit reacted to the film here. Enjoy the trailer below.

This one is our wild card.  An Education has a stellar cast (Peter Sarsgaard, Emma Thompson and Alfred Molina) but a story that seems to have been done before…. teenage girl wise beyond her years falls for an older man, blah blah blah.  But, the exquisite cast , the dreary/dreamy setting of 1960′s England and a script by Nick Hornby, have us intrigued. An Education opens on October 9th.  Enjoy the trailer below.

The Damned United is a football (British use of the term) movie that tells the story of the rise and fall of one of Englands’ most notorious and beloved figures, coach Brian Clough.   Wonderfully acted by a cast that includes Michael Sheen and Colm Meaney and directed with the loving hand of Tom Hooper, it’s a film that fans and non-fans can all enjoy.  The Damned United opens October 9th, and you guessed it, the trailer is below.

And finally, Broken Embraces is the lastest film from the fabulous team of Penelope Cruz and Pedro Almodovar.  It’s Almodovar’s  first noir -like film and we can’t wait.  The film opens November 20th.  Peep the trailer below.
