For many, Joan Jett set the standard for being a true rock and roll chick. And, for those who really got it, so did Cherie Currie. The story of The Runaways was begging to be told on the big screen and we can’t wait to see it unfold on March 19th. With the intriguing casting of Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett and sweet little (or at least that’s how most of us think of her) Dakota Fanning as Cherie, the stage is set for something real cool to go down.

Let’s start with the big guns Adventureland and Fast and Furious 4. Adventureland had a great preview at SXSW and people thought it might be better than Superbad. Yes it’s a comedy, but there’s a sweetness and poignancy to Adventureland that Superbad didn’t have. There’s more here.
Fast and Furious 4 is back louder and faster with the original stars. Stuff blows up, people blow up at each other and all the while a pulsating soundtrack blares in the background. Cool. Check out the trailer below.
The Escapist is a British jail break thriller starring Brian Cox. (If you’ve never seen Manhunter, rent it on DVD and enjoy a masterful performance by Brian Cox as Hannibal Lecter). Sometimes the accents are a little thick to wade through, but the film is no less compelling or absorbing. As this reviewer says, “If you think the only possible endings to a prison escape movie are “They get away” or “They don’t get away” then you haven’t seen The Escapist.” The Escapist, from IFC Films, opens tomorrow in New York and is also available throughout the U.S. via IFC’s on- demand service.
If you liked Superbad, time to try Adventureland! It premiered with great reviews at Sundance, screens tonight at SXSW, and opens everywhere April 3th. The film stars Bill Hader (SNL and Superbad), Kristen Wigg (SNL), Kristen Stewart (Twilight) and Ryan Reynolds (Definitely, Maybe)
