In the year 2000

Yes, it was in the year 2000 that Andy Richter left the “Conan O’Brien Show” to become an actor. While he found more success than most people who call themselves actors, he knows a good thing when he sees it, and is coming back to to the fold when Conan takes over the Tonight Show on June 1st.   Conan said,  ”I’m looking forward to working with Andy on a daily basis again, particularly since he owes me $300.”  Works for us.

And just in case you were wondering, Max Weinberg and The Max Weinberg 7 will be along for the ride too.

Cheap Trick, Poison and Def Leppard Oh My!

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

cheap-trick-11You might want to sit down for this… Poison, Def Leppard and Cheap Trick are touring together this summer!!

The tour, kicks off on June 23rd in Camden, N.J (another tour opener in Camden?!), and this is the big one! First, these three bands have sold a combined 100 million records. Second, there will be over three decades of music to cover , and third,  it’ll be a four-hour interactive concert experience that starts the minute the doors open. There’ll be Bluetooth technology and delivery, text communications prior to and during performances and a host of interactive offerings, presumably not limited to flashing.

This is epic. If you missed any of these bands back in the day, they’ve still got it. Just go!

All the dates are on Cheaptrick.com and CheapTrick has put up their own you tube channel here.

There is one huge movie release this weekend, The Jonas Brothers 3D (!!!), but unless you’re a thirteen year old girl, that’s probably not exactly your idea of a huge movie release. Most of us will probably be looking ahead to see what big movies will be coming out in the near future.  Here’s a nice list from the L.A. Times, neatly organized into categories, that will help you plot out your future movie going and give you a leg-up on that “expert” movie guy/gal you know.

Just when you were wondering what happened to live albums comes Van Morrison’s Astral Weeks: Live At The Hollywood Bowl. It’s the first-ever live performance of the legendary singer’s revered 1968 album, and just happens to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the original recording.

Recorded  over two nights at the Hollywood Bowl this past November, the concerts were the first time Van ever performed “Astral Weeks” in one complete show. Rolling Stone Magazine noted that Morrison “took charge of the music with the authority that comes with four decades of performing. It seemed that once he breathed in the perfume of these eight songs, he didn’t want them to end – and looking at the enraptured crowd, he wasn’t the only one.”

images2Chris Isaak is releasing a new record and a new show. Mr. Lucky releases Tuesday two days before “The Chris Isaak Hour” debuts on The Biography Channel on Thursday.  The album is his first non-holiday studio album since 2002 . Chris’s show is a talk and performance format, and his first guests will be Trisha Yearwood, Stevie Nicks and Glen Campbell.

In the extra hip category, you might want to try The Black Lips’ 200 Million Thousand.  Known for their incredible live performances, The Black Lips’ bring all that energy into this studio recording.  Spin Magazine applauds 200‘s “exacting pop hooks, clever musical experiments, and insidious grooves.
